Linguist List 31st Anniversary

Dear LINGUIST List subscribers,

As you may know, December 13 marks the 31st anniversary of The LINGUIST List’s founding. On December 13, 1990, Anthony Aristar and Helen Dry sent out the first ever issue of The LINGUIST List, which was, at that time, only a mailing list. Our first website was added the next year.

We wanted to take this opportunity to thank you, our readers, for 31 years of support! We’re very proud to have spent 31 years helping linguists from all over the world connect for discussion, collaboration, and employment, and we couldn’t have achieved this without the support of our generous readers. In the first ever issue, Anthony and Helen earnestly asked subscribers to “begin contributing, and aid therefore in the continuance of LINGUIST.” The outpouring of support over the last 31 years has been tremendous, and we are so grateful to have made it this far!

As when we started 31 years ago, The LINGUIST List remains dependent on its subscribers for support. We want to continue supporting our fellow linguists for 31+ more years (at least!), but we can’t do that without your help. If you’re able, please consider supporting The LINGUIST List with a donation. All donations are tax-deductible in the United States.

Another easy way to help the LINGUIST List (at no cost to yourself!) is by choosing us as your charity of choice via Amazon Smile. Shop for holiday gifts or everyday needs at smile.amazon.com/ch/45-4211155 and Amazon will donate 0.5% of your eligible purchase value at no cost to you.

Once again, thank you so much for your continued support over the years. The LINGUIST List is having a very happy 31st birthday thanks to you!

Thank you,

The LINGUIST List Team
